This trip can be considered Planetary Muffin Expeditions’ First Adventure. Back in 2007, Varun & Rushi lamented the lack of field trips in college, as they had had in elementary & middle, and high school. Then they realized that there was nothing stopping them on making field trips of their own. After months of careful planning, they embarked on their first winter backpacking expedition in January of 2008.
The trip took 2 nights, 2.5 days and started from Badger Pass in Yosemite National Park. It ended at Glacier Point, a 21 mile round trip. With 60 lb packs(yes, we did not know how to pack back then), and travelling in deep snow with snowshoes, 8 miles per day is considered a hard push. Coupled with our merely average fitness level and lack of snow camping experience, this trip ended up being one of the most strenuous expeditions we have ever done. Though we were not able to get our anticipated phenomenal valley views from glacier point as expected, we were able to take some pretty amazing pictures of a remote & beautiful alien Winter environment.
